The Trouble With Bliss is a story about Morris Bliss (Michael C. Hall) who, at thirty, lives at home off of his working class father (Peter Fonda) in New York City. He does nothing most of the time. While shopping for a present for his dad he meets a high school senior (Brie Larson) whom he has sex with. He later finds out that this is the daughter of his old high school friend (Brad Henke). Lucy Liu plays a neighbor who is having marital problems and flirts with having an affair with Morris. Chris Messina plays a guy Morris knows who has a random story that is has nothing to do with anything else in the movie.
That’s the story of the film. There is no mortar holding anything together here. We are given no reason to believe anything that people say or do (or wear). How people are intertwined makes little to no sense. Why Morris is how he is is likewise never explained. There isn’t enough indie quirk here to forgive any of that. I do not recommend this movie.
I watched this movie on Netflix DVD.
